She is planning to go to sleep real soon. But heck… it just got quiet here. I don’t want to go to sleep and waste all of this glorious silence!

I have so many pictures from before I got Photoshop that I have a seemingly endless supply of stuff to fiddle with. Tonight I played with a handful of pictures that I took last Summer during our time in California, as well as some from the beautiful drive back home.

Ever wondered what the Golden Gate would look like if it was really Golden?

GOLDEN Gate

I have always loved this picture of Alcatraz.

Alcatraz Island

This is a beach somewhere in Oregon… I can’t remember which beach as we stopped at several.

Oregon Coast beach

Whenever I see this picture I always want to start belting out, “The hills are alive with the sound of muuuuuuusic… Ahhhaahhaahh… My heart wants to sing every song it hears, every song that it hears… My heart wants to skip with the… ” Oh er… sorry. Got carried away there.

BC mountains

Another picture I shot from Pier 39.

Forbes Island Lighthouse

Houses and a boat somewhere in Marin County… I love houses with shingle sidings. It makes me want to eat clam chowder. And I hate clam chowder but shingle sided houses do things to me.

somewhere in marin

Another of my favorites pictures from that day in SF… You can tell it’s a favorite because I slapped a big ugly copyright watermark on it.

GGB

And as much as I like images that reflect reality, I do so love to manipulate images that otherwise really stink. This picture of Coit tower was incredibly boring, very poorly shot (is it any wonder? I shot it as we drove by!) Ugly, ugly, ugly. So I livened it up with some foggy cloud brushes that I created with other pictures that I took of actual clouds and I also applied a lighting effect filter. Sometimes I really don’t care if something looks totally doctored. It’s just fun to take it from pickin’ ugly to uh… well… something other than pickin’ ugly.

Koit Tower

Well, that’s that and now I’m officially ready to zonk out. Have a blessed Lord’s Day tomorrow.

  1. Amazing as usual 🙂 Never been to the west coast and we don’t have anything like that third shot of the beach. Beautifull!!

  2. Hi, I came here via Under a South Dakota Sunset… I love the pictures and would like your opinion on something: Is is better to have an average camera and PhotoShop or should do I need a better camera AND PhotoShop? I’m wondering if I can get by with just PhotoShop? My camera is decent – nothing special; I’m not thrilled with the shutter speed, but it takes pretty decent pictures.

So, do you LOVE Photoshop? Is it worth the expense?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

  3. These are beautiful, Nan! I especially liked the bridge and the tower. Amazing how you made a not so great photo turn out so fab. When will you be posting the tutorial?;o)

I hope you are feeling better soon and your MIL’s health improves as well. Somehow I missed exactly what was going on. Maybe I was distracted by all the purty pictures.
