The other day my sweet hubby showed me a great place online to buy personalized Christmas cards. They are called Tinyprints.com. Go there and order yourself some super cute personalized Christmas cards before reading any further here. I am not selling Christmas cards here. But looking through their wonderful selection made me think that it wouldn’t actually be too terribly hard to make such cards on my own using my ever trusty Photoshop.
I will confess I had little faith in myself initially so I decided to practice by using one of their designs. I did not just copy and paste anything. I did a “freehand” not-quite-copy (as in I made several little changes) using just the basic tools in Photoshop which I’m not going to show you because I don’t want to even risk any kind of copyright infringement even though there are several differences between mine and the original. It was just for practice and gaining self confidence. I have always been deadly afraid of doing any actual drawing in Photoshop because I’m a wimp that way but I have now discovered that the polygonal lasso tool is my friend. I was amazed at how easy it was once I got the hang of what I was doing. And then I got a wee bit carried away.
Oh, and I totally made up random names for many of these.
This one I call Merry Winter.
This one I’m calling Merry Pixmas.
Here I have Merry Manger.
And of course a Merry Gentlemen. Which reminds me, if you have not seen the movie The Star of Bethlehem, you have to see it. It’s very, very cool. It will give you shivers down your spine. I promise. Sort of. I can’t really promise anything related to your nervous system like that or I’ll get sued if it doesn’t actually send shivers down your spine.
Had I but made a Mary and baby Jesus one I would have undoubtedly entitled it Merry Mary.
Fun aren’t they? I tell you… I’m getting carried away. I still have suitcases to unpack here (just a few) and here I have spent half of the afternoon making Christmas cards just for fun. I think I better go unpack those suitcases to assuage this growing sense of guilt I am feeling.
Oh, but before I do that I have to show you some more pictures of my newest little niece whom I was pretty sure I was not going to get to see until she was about 1 1/2. Glad I didn’t have to wait that long.
