A Winter Prayer

Good Maker,

I stare at my bare branches and feel naked
Did I not sign up to be Always Spring, Always Green?
As I look down I can’t even see my roots
All I see is leaf litter, the waste product of my past beauty – which may never come again.

But as I think deeper, beyond appearances,
I see you at work in your strange Wisdom
You are feeding my roots
Building beauty under gray skies
Life was never meant to be Always Green
But lived under Heaven’s banner – All for Good/ Under the Mercy
In each season its seasonal fruit fed by love
Going deep so we can reach high and wide

So I sing to bare branches
All for Good/Under the Mercy
