“How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand… there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep, that have taken hold.”
– Frodo Baggins
Frodo was right. There is only going forward. There is no undoing. Life has no rewind button. Whether memories are sweet or sorrowful, and most are an amalgamation of both, they are not something we can ever return to by despising our present or avoiding movement towards a different future. They aren’t something we can heal from by replaying them. Longing after them or letting their invasive tendrils wrap around the present will not undo the pain or bring back the pleasure and will only rob us of any possibility of joy today and tomorrow.
The only thing is to move forward. Perhaps for a while that may feel like crawling through thick mud, and eventually walking. You may walk with a limp forever from that wound. You may always carry in your bosom the sweet memories that left a deep impression on your soul. But you must, you will walk. And you can only walk forward by faith. There is beauty yet to behold.
